Polymarket Returns to U.S. as Popularity of Prediction Markets Grows
Polymarket, the world's largest prediction market, has secured regulatory approval from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to operate as a fully regulated platform in the United States. The MOVE marks a significant comeback after its access to the American market was halted in 2022 under the Biden administration.
The platform, which allows users to wager on outcomes ranging from cryptocurrency price movements to election results, will now offer services through futures commission merchants and traditional brokerages. Enhanced surveillance, clearing procedures, and reporting obligations will apply, aligning Polymarket with supervised exchanges.
Prediction markets have gained traction as tools for hedging and speculation, particularly in crypto circles. Polymarket's return could further bridge decentralized finance with traditional regulatory frameworks.
